Creagh / Roll Residence

Atlanta, GA

The project is a renovation of a mid-century flat-roofed house in west Buckhead.  The flat roof had sagged over the years.  The owner did not want a "new" flat roof design, but wanted to keep the wide eaves that the flat roof design had.  The owners wanted a hipped roof Prairie style design, with wide eaves extending the full perimeter of the house.

The original den had clearstory windows, which gave natural light into this, otherwise, interior space.  The new roof included insulated skylights for the new den.  Custom designed bookshelves with an art alcove filled the wall below the skylights.  The bookcase was built with reclaimed lumber from the demolition of the roof of the original den.  The green wall panels above the bookcase symbolically represent the original clearstory windows of the den.

A band of casement windows with Prairie Style mullions was added in the kitchen, in addition to a recessed ceiling coffer with diffused lighting.

A new garage to replace the existing carport was built later.
