Almand Residence
Atlanta, GA
This project is to a mid-century ranch house near Emory University. The client is a retired widower.
This scheme is an addition of a new master bedroom, screened sleeping porch and studio / loft on the upper level. An existing Jack and Jill bathroom is converted into an ensuite for the master bedroom with an adjacent dressing room. A narrow deck connects across the rear of the house with new French doors opening to the dining room and kitchen. The addition opens to the wooded rear of the property, affording privacy in the treetops.
The new addition is supported on a minimum foundation using steel pipes to support a steel and wood I-joist floor system. The new roof continues the slope of the existing roof over the studio / loft space. A dormer allows light and views of the western sky, while still giving privacy from the street.
